They come from Etterbeek and Veltem-Beisem in Belgium.

The family François Menten (1929-1998) and Elisabeth Mommaerts (born in Leuven in 1936), daughter of Guillaume and Maria, married in Jette, Belgium in 1956.
They emigrated to Canada in 1956. 

Elisabeth's parents and brothers and sister came afterwards and emigrated in 1957.
