The American tribe in Wisconsin in the United States
The Josephus Mommaerts family (1870-1944) and Maria Rosalia Baeb (1874-1949) about 1918 with 10 of their 13 children.
They married in Browntown, Green County.They come from the Belgian Blanden and Bierbeek.
Maria Rosalia emigrated to America in 1889 and Josephus in 1891.
The Canadian tribe
The family Guillaume Mommaerts (1911-2004) and Maria Henrica Mergaerts (1913-2003) around 1956 with 3 of their 4 children.
Rosalie is missing. They come from Etterbeek and Veltem-Beisem in Belgium.
The family François Menten (1929-1998) and Elisabeth Mommaerts (born in Leuven in 1936), daughter of Guillaume and Maria, emigrated to Canada in 1956. They married in Jette, Belgium.
Elisabeth's parents and brothers and sister came afterwards and emigrated in 1957.
The meaning of the name "Mommaerts" must therefore be sought in Belgium.
