Elisabeth Mommaerts : Op den Bovenberg in Veltem.
Edouard was my godfather. I was supposed to be an Edouard too, however, since was not, I was given his wife`s name, Jeanne, as my 2nd name
Catherine Menten : I have this pic and was wondering who these people were.
And furthermore, who's house is this?
Elisabeth Mommaerts : The house was my uncle Edward's, he, his wife Jeanne - whom I hated - their son Pierre are long dead of course. Their only daughter, Maria, was still alive in 2007 when she was invited to my cousin Mariette`s house. She was long married when thie above picture was taken, that`s why she`s not in it.
If you want to see Maria, go to my 'family' album. Do you have a pic taken at Gabrielle's house that time when we were all in Belgium and we went to Veltem? You are sitting in Julien's lap. If you do, send me it please. I was wearing a yellow home-made Dior dress, which grandma Menten said I wouldn't trip over.
Gary Menten : Herein lies the reason why we shoot photos. Like you Catherine, I absolutely do not remember the visit, wearing a suit or indeed very much from that trip. But here is the photo to prove that we were there, and we did meet these people, even if only fleetingly.
Elisabeth Mommaerts : On that trip to Belgium, Gary, you, your father and I went to Paris in our rented car. Catherine stayed with grandma Menten. On the way back to Brussels, we were to stop at Guy's Lombart's mother's place in France, but the weather in the French Ardennes was just too shitty. We ate a very late supper at a restaurant in Brussels before finally getting back to grandma Menten.
Gary Menten : I remember going to Paris, and being unable to sleep the first night because of the non-stop traffic sounds. I remember going to the Eiffel Tower and the Sacre Coeur as well. Not much else.
Elisabet Mommaerts : It was rather noisy. Of course, your father managed to be sick, in Paris and back in Brussels. He had the flu or something, Gran Menten was shocked that I did not want to tend to him, well, I had two kids to think of who I didn't want to be sick for our return flight to Canada. Do you remember all 4 of us going to the zoo in Antwerp?
Gary Menten : I don't remember the zoo, but again, there are photos to prove we were there. I remember the drive there, a lot of billboards in English, and you wanting to buy lace. I remember some dolls of lacemakers also.
Elisabet Mommaerts : The only thing that sticks in my mind about the trip to Antwerp was that your father told you kids to speak English. He -and I- hated the vociferous Antwerp flamingants, who refused to speak French and who made everyone's life miserable. Bozos couldn't grumble about English-speaking people tho, and kids are kids, waiters & such were kind to you ENGLISH-SPEAKING kids.
Gary Menten : I vaguely remember that too.
Elisabet Mommaerts: Enough reminescenses for tonight. I'm going to hit the sack.
