Daughter of Adam and Maria Catharina Meulemans

Pat Mommaerts : My grandparents at their wedding.

Lois Triemstra : They look real happy...

Pam Walsh : Mom's or Dad's?

Elisabeth Menten : That would be my great uncle and aunt. Were they married in the U.S. or before they left Belgium?

Pat Mommaerts : These are my maternal grandparents (sorry, Liz) James and Caroline Brown. They were married in Wisconsin around 1898.

Bruce W Mommaerts : Back in those days it was not proper to have the photo subjects smiling

Pat Mommaerts : This marriage took place in or near Klondike, WI

Julie Brooks : I'm not so certain that it had anything to do with smiling, think it was more the process of the long exposure to the film plate.

Elisabeth Menten : Sorry, Pat, can't win them all. Here's a portrait of my parent's wedding day, December 30, 1934.

Pat Mommaerts : Your father looks a great deal like my uncle Ed at that age.

Elisabeth Menten : Not surprising, since they were first cousins. He was 23 then. I never knew his father of course, only his mother, and could not say who he took after, but on the other hand, I still remember a resemblance between him and Dan, for instance, although Dan was very tall and thin, and my father was very short. I can only very vaguely remember what my cousin Camille Frippiat, the son of my aunt Elisabeth, looked like, he died in December 1945 when I was 9 years old. I'll have to dig out from somewhere the photo my husband took in 1961, I'm not sure I have it, but you posted it the other day, Pat. Here's a photo of my aunt/godmother, Elisabeth, my father's sister, which I took in 1981 on a visit to Belgium.

Barbara Johnson Mommaerts : Do you mean Mike's dad?

Pat Mommaerts : Yep. Mike's dad. uncle Ed.

Barbara Johnson Mommaerts : I think there is a resemblance to Mike's brother, Ed.

Pat Mommaerts : He does look a bit like Eddie.
